The Situation
Most garages in Parma went up between 1938 and 2004, with the bulk of that stock dating to the 1960s and 70s. The Seasonal Bit
Parma sits in a cold-severe climate band, and that matters more for sensors than for almost any other garage part. The alignment problem isn't the cold itself - it's the concrete slab expanding and contracting under it as ground temperatures swing hard from summer to winter. A slab that heaves even slightly on one side changes the angle of whatever is bolted to it, including the sensor bracket a few inches off the floor.
This is why so many service calls here cluster in the weeks after the first real cold snap and again in early spring thaw. The sensors were aligned fine in September. By December, the slab has shifted enough that the beam that used to clear the door track by an inch now clips it, or misses the receiving eye by just enough to trip a fault. It's not a defect in the sensor. It's the building settling into winter the way it does every year in a climate this severe, and the bracket just can't keep up without a recheck.
What Local Conditions Do
In a slab and framing stock this old, sitting through winters this cold, sensor brackets loosen at the screw points slowly rather than all at once. Each freeze-thaw cycle works the fasteners a little looser and shifts the slab a little more, so the sensors that were dead-on in June can be noticeably off by the time the first hard freeze hits. This is a slow drift, not a sudden failure, which is why most homeowners don't catch it until the door starts refusing to close.
If your garage is on the older end of Parma's 1938-2004 range, or anywhere near that 1966 median, it's worth having the brackets checked and re-torqued once a year, ideally before the first freeze. That single check catches most of the false-fault calls we see before they turn into a no-close situation on a night you actually need the door to shut.
